With Great Power… – James 2:15-17

James 2:15-17 – 15 Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. 16 If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? 17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. (NIV)

pk17a[1] The clip from the comic above comes from Amazing Fantasy #15 where we first get to see the one of the greatest comic book characters from Marvel, Spider-Man. What above spawned what have been shortened to the mantra, “With great power comes great responsibility.” Peter Parker, Spider-Man, was told this by Ben Parker, his uncle. He took those words for granted but soon after he have heard those very words he was faced with the true meaning of it. A thief who Peter had the power and the ability to stop was the man that killed his Uncle. He had the power to stop him dead in his tracks and he didn’t.  James has a message that all of us need to read. That we learned from Spider-Man. We learned that if we have the ability to do something to help out our fellow man we should. From paying it forward at the drive-thru to buying food for a homeless and hungry person we must do what we can to help each other. Even a smile and to let someone know that you care is all you need. Think about that time when you told someone I will pray for you. You should pray with them. In Matthew 18:19 Jesus tells us that if “two of you agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.” Just praying with someone can make a difference in their lives. Let’s learn from the lesson that James and Spider-Man taught us. Let us do good on earth as long as we are able to. It is our responsibility to not just speak for good things to happen but to take actions. Be a blessing to someone today. Prayer Heavenly Father, I am thankful that you have blessed me with the ability to help other around me. I pray that I can be a blessing to someone everyday. That when I pay it forward, pray with someone who’s in need, even give the shirt off my back to someone without that they know it’s not me but You that I am representing. Thank you for blessing me so I can always be a blessing to others. This prayer in Jesus name. Amen.
