James 3:2 – We all stumble in many ways. Anyone who is never at fault in what they say is perfect, able to keep their whole body in check. (NIV)
We all have made mistakes in someway or form in our lives. Some more than others. We didn’t listen to what others have told us. We didn’t listen to that still small voice inside of us that told us that we were not taking the right path. Two guys who didn’t fell many of times were the Elric Brothers, Alphonse and Edward. They are from the story Fullmetal Alchemist by Hiromu Arakawa. In this world Alchemist aren’t people that just turn random metals in to gold but if they have the basic building blocks of any item they can make it. Spare wooden parts can easily be turned into a beautiful new chest if placed in a transmutation circle. But what about the dead body of a loved one. What would that create? In that world, those actions are the ultimate taboo. Those who attempt it are reprimanded in the worst possible way. Edward lost and arm and a leg but his brother Alphonse, lost his whole body and his soul was attached to armor by his brother to keep him in the living world.
James tells us that we all fall sometimes just like the Elric brothers. None of us are perfect. Even those who act like they have it all together is still just an act. They are just as imperfect as you are. You may make mistakes in your life but know that you need to pick yourself up and keep moving forward despite your mistake. You may stumble on the way to your goal but it doesn’t mean that life is over. That the dream should die. That the business can’t be renewed. That your relationship can’t comeback stronger than ever. That your investments won’t return to you tenfold. That your life can’t get in the order it was before or better. As my favorite Switchfoot song “Always” from their album “Hello Hurricane” says, “Every breath is a second chance.” My God, truer words may have not been spoken. No matter what don’t lose hope. Keep your faith and God will see you through.
Heavenly Father, I have made so many mistakes in my life. There are times where the grief of what I have done and the repercussions of my actions make me lose sleep at night. Please help me to remember that we all stumble. More importantly help me to remember that you are God that will lift me up when I fall. That as long as I listen for your word and know your will I will not falter. Thank you for seeing me through the mistakes I made with grace and courage. Give me confidence to push through to the end. In Jesus Name. Amen.
