Habakkuk 2:3 – For the vision is yet for an appointed time and it hastens to the end [fulfillment]; it will not deceive or disappoint. Though it tarry, wait [earnestly] for it, because it will surely come; it will not be behindhand on its appointed day. (AMP)
Sonic the Hedgehog is known as the “fastest thing alive” in the realm of video games. The game designers at Sega crafted this character as a faster, edgier, more hip video game character than our old plumber Mario that we just read about in our previous devotional. This character was all about speed. Quickly jumping from one battle to the next to save the world from the nefarious Dr. Robotnik, later known as Dr. Eggman. Only Sonic’s quick reflexes and stunning speed can counteract the robots and machines that Eggman have set upon the world. Just in case you didn’t know, what makes Eggman so evil is that the robots you destroy contain little woodland creatures.
The funny thing about Sonic is that he feels he has to keep moving. If he’s not moving he does the oddest thing. Sonic looks at you and tap his feet. In various cartoons, voiced by Jaleel White, Sonic would say “I’m Waaaiting.” You know I thought about how you and I can be a bit impatient at times too.
We as people can be in such a rush to get from Point A to Point B and rushing to get somewhere that we just aren’t ready for. We all have goals to accomplish, at least I hope that if you are reading that you do. However, we need to wait on God’s perfect timing and pray through every decision before we make our move.
For many things in life we rush. We rush to grow up and we miss much of our childhood. We rush through traffic and we don’t enjoy the view around us. We rush into marriage and find we married the wrong person. We rush into fiery situations and get burned. We got to focus on Him and his Kingdom. Wait on God’s timing and you will be okay.
Matthew 6:33 – But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. (KJV)
Sonic may always be in a rush. Do you want to know the funny thing about Sonic the Hedgehog. In all of his games they do push speed but you are for more likely to succeed if you slow down and take your time with the game. Sonic maybe waiting for you to move but its better to make him wait. Just like in your life. Wait, pray, and think. Most of all, always put God first. God’s may not always work on your time but he will always be on time. Just be patient.
Heavenly Father, I know I might rush into things but I am thankful for the times you make me wait. It gives me time to reflect on You and what I need to do in my life. It gives me the opportunity to make the right choices and strengthen my spirit. Thank you for keeping your promise that if I put you first you will provide for me. In Jesus name, Amen.
