I’ll Bring Him Back – Proverbs 18:24

Proverbs 18:24 – One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. (NIV)

When it comes to friendship there’s no anime that comes to my mind more than Naruto. This is the story that follows the titular character Naruto Uzumaki. Naruto is a coming age story about a kid who was actually the hero of the village because he alone carries the weight of withholding the Nine-tails Fox Demon, Kurama inside his body. The problem is that since the people of the village remember the destruction that the Nine-tails Fox caused to the village they did not see him as a hero as his father wanted but as a monster. Yet through grit, perseverance, and great attitude he was able to find friends in his team led by his squad leader, Kakashi Hatake. Known as Cell Team 7, his team consisted of Sakura Haruno (his love interest), Sasuke Uchiha (his rival), and himself.

Through trials and tribulations Naruto have found that they are two sides of the same coin. They were both orphans and they both carried a large weight on their shoulders. However how they handled that weight varied and set them on a path that separated them. Sauske, in order to get stronger, left with the enemy Orochimaru. In all of the chaos Naruto made a promise, he will bring him back. Those words written by King Solomon are no truer then than they are now. There are plenty of people out there that may crowd around us. They claim that you are their friend but they don’t have your best interest in mind. They use and manipulate and use a “friendship” as leverage to have you do things that could hurt you in the long run.

They may tell you to do something dangerous that they know they wouldn’t do themselves or even wouldn’t help them in the long run. No friend should ask you to drink until you don’t have your faculties. No friend should standby as you walk down the wrong path in terms of relationship, job, or extracurricular activities. A true friend will always guide you in the right direction with the purest intentions for you. That friend that can do that should be a brother or sister to you.

You know Sasuke was lost for a long time. Orochimaru helped feed into his constant anger towards his brother, Itachi Uchiha, and the Village Hidden in the Leaves. However, there was one constant in his life that no matter what he did he followed after him. Naruto wanted to make sure that Sasuke stayed on the right path and knew he had to use his power to do it. Naruto may have failed a few times in bringing Sasuke home but after many battles, some on the same and some on the opposing sides, he brought him home. He kept the promise that he made because a good friend, a brother or a sister, would always do what’s best for their friend even when their friend doesn’t know it.

May I end this with a request if you are reading this. Everyone needs someone who has their best interest in mind and will always do good by them no matter what. I simply ask that you be that person for anyone and everyone in your circle. As Galatians 6:10 tells us, “let us do good to all people (NIV)”.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, Thank you that you have brought people in my life that are true friends. Friends that I can consider brother or sisters that have my best interest in mind and heart. They are a gift in my life and truly cherish them. In Jesus name, Amen.
