Mark 11:22-24 – 22 “Have faith in God,” Jesus answered. 23 “Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. 24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. (NIV)
This is part one of the Attacking Titans series. The anime/manga series I am loosely referring to is Attack on Titans or Shingeki no Kyojin by Hajime Isayama. This series revolves around people who are stuck in a battle for life. The world as they know it have been taken over by gigantic aggressive being known as “titans”. We specifically follow the leading character Eren Yeager. He lost everything with the attack of his home town Shiganshina District except for his two best childhood friends Armin Arlert and Mikasa Ackerman. As I watched this show and read the manga it reminded me how hopeless human life can be sometimes but I also enjoyed that in all of the plight that befalls them they each do something to fight the good fight.
I watched the show and I believed by watching these characters they have showed all of us the key in fighting the titans in our lives. Titans that cause devastation in our lives. Titans that cause us to lose hope. Titans doesn’t have to be a gigantic man eating giant. A titan in our lives could be the lost of your home or job or the loss of a friend. It’s menacing but in the following entries I hope that you learn from the following characters how to attack the titans in your life. The first thing you notice is what Eren says when he is on that boat that will lead him to safety from his hometown. He just lost his mother and his home. All he has left is the clothes on his back and the shoes on his feet. He is filled with a rage and sadness that is expected of a person that went through such a traumatic experience but then he cries out, “I will wipe them out. I will erase them from this world.”
It reminded me about what of what Jesus told us all as Peter reminded Jesus about the fig tree that Jesus spoke to. The fig tree died and Jesus said for us to “Have faith in God” (Mk 11:22). He then told us, “Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea.’ and does not doubt in to your hear and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. (Mk 11:33). That’s just what Eren did on that boat. The hero of our tale started by declaring that he will wipe them out of this world.
You see the first thing you need to do when a titan attacks you is that you have to declare that you will defeat that titan in your life. Jesus tells us that there is power in the tongue but you have to believe it when you say it. But the bible tells us just speaking it will make the difference. You will defeat your past of heartbreaks and pain. You will defeat the regret you wake up every morning. In the book of Proverbs 18:21 we read:
Proverbs 18:21 – The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit. (NIV)
Please declare to the titan or titans in your life that you will defeat it and when you pray believe that your prayer has already been answered and it will be yours (Mk 11:24). Let’s follow Eren’s example on the first step of attacking the titans in our lives. Next we will see how his friend Armin Arlert handles the titan scourge.
Heavenly Father, I truly believe and declare that you are freeing people from the grasps of their titans. I believe that you are rescuing them from their grief, their sickness, and for the other problems in their lives that they are being plagued with today. Your Son told us that all we have to do is speak to our problems and tell it to go and it will happen as long as we believe. The wisest man in history, Solomon, conveyed to us that the power of life and death are in the tongue as well. My God, please help me to focus on the positive and let me not utter anything negative over my life but only that wish will please you and edify myself and others. In Jesus name, Amen.
