We are now on Part three of our series. Part One, A New Hope, covered what Jesus coming means for us as Christians and compared it to what Luke meant to the Star Wars Universe. Part Two, The Empire Strikes Back, covered temptation to go to the dark side as Luke had to deal with from his father as well as Jesus before he began his ministry. But the epic conclusion of the Luke Trilogy of Star Wars is Episode VI: Return of the Jedi.
At the end of The Empire Strikes back the heroes lives are in shambles. Han Solo is frozen in carbonite and is in the clutches of the vile Jabba the Hutt. Luke Skywalker lost his battle with Darth Vader as well as his hand. He found out that one of the greatest evils in the universe is his father. The team lost hope after the events of Cloud City.
But the prophecy must be fulfilled right? Anakin, Darth Vader, is supposed to be the one to bring balance to the force and we need the Return of the Jedi to do it. We needed the pendulum to swing towards the light in the Star Wars Universe as well as our own. We needed our “Jedi” Jesus Christ to return. Continue reading “Return of the Jedi – Luke 24”→
Part Two of our series follows Star Wars Episode V The Empire Strikes Back. In the previous article we spoke of Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope and how Jesus came into the world and how that was something to give us hope. In this article we are going to discuss The Empire Strikes back.
Now love it or hate it some of the greatest events in the saga took place in this movie. We get to see Vader unmasked for the first time, the awesome fight on Hoth, introduction of Jedi Master Yoda, and one of the most quoted and yet wrongly quoted lines from any movie you could think of came from this movie here. “No, I am your father.” Most people think the No is Luke.
The Empire Strikes back starts on the icy planet of Hoth where the rebels suffer defeat after victory from the destruction of the Death Star. Luke is told that he needs to go Dagobah to complete his Jedi training with Jedi Master Yoda. But sensing that his cohorts were on trouble in Cloud City he ended his training prematurely to help them. But he failed at helping them. In the end he fought getting enticed by the dark side and his friend and ally was locked away in carbonate given to Jabba the Hutt.
Thinking about how Darth Vader was trying to entice Luke to the Dark Side I thought about how Satan tried to do the same thing with Jesus. Minus being his father of course.
Luke 2:1-7 – 1 And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. 2 This census first took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. 3 So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city.
4 Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, 5 to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child. 6 So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. 7 And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. This year. This week we are starting a new series based on Star Wars and what better place to start than the movie that started it all, Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. In this movie we are introduced to Luke Skywalker, a young man from the desert planet of Tatooine. He runs into two droids that had a special message for “Old Ben” Kenobi, a hermit. It is then revealed that Ben is really Obi-Wan Kenobi, a Jedi Master. The message is from Princess Leia Organa of Alderaan. She tells them of the plans of the Death Star and she knew that if anyone and save the day it would be the Jedi Master. To leave Tatooine they hired the help of the smuggler Han Solo and his faithful ally Chewbacca. The group together had to help guide Luke to his destiny with training in the force and trusting in it. He had to follow his destiny to save the universe. To challenge Darth Vader’s contraption of death and stop the space station in it’s tracks.
This remind me of another story. Someone who had a destiny to fulfill to save the galaxy. His name is Jesus Christ. Just as Luke Skywalker was to give hope to the rebel alliance and the galaxy so has Jesus to all of us. Continue reading “A New Hope – Luke 2:1-7”→
