That Cross Is Awfully Heavy – Matthew 11:28-30

Matthew 11:28-30 – 28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (NIV)

The statement posed in the title comes from Vash the Stampede who asked Nicholas D. Wolfwood. Wolfwood carried around a large crossed shaped gun called The Punisher as can be seen above. These characters I mention come from the Anime and Manga Trigun by Yasuhiro Nightow. The lead character of the story is Vash the Stampede but the other main character that we watched for was Wolfwood. His story is different in the manga but I will be concentrating on his story from the anime.

Wolfood had a troubled past growing up. He felt the only way to escape from the trouble of his guardians was to shoot and kill them. His goal is to take care of the children so they don’t have to experience the same abuse that he had to endure when he was younger. He is taken in by Chapel the Evergreen who raised him to be the future successor of the Gung-Ho Guns Gang and bestowed upon him the Punisher.

His hand sullied with the blood of his friend and his only other friend is a pacifist who understands him but doesn’t agrees with his ways. Wolfwood was dealt a bad hand being raised by nefarious men, groomed for vile purposes, and has a duty to protect the children of an orphanage so they wouldn’t suffer the same fate as he. How could anyone manage such a burden? Continue reading “That Cross Is Awfully Heavy – Matthew 11:28-30”
